Best Practices in Counseling Transgender Persons and Their Families

Description

Best practices for counseling transgender people based upon WPATH standards of mental health care will be discussed in this presentation, as well as the presenter’s experience providing counseling services to transgender people and their families in his private practice and as co-leader of a support group for parents of transgender children and teens. Ethical issues and the professional responsibilities of mental health service providers for counseling transgender people and their families will be addressed. Late admission will not be permitted, due to live recording.

  • Identify common myths, barriers, and risks associated with the care of transgender children, teens and adults
  • Identify current WPATH standards of care and best practices for counseling transgender persons and their families
  • Describe ethical issues and counselor responsibilities when treating transgender persons and their families
