Description: The following questions will be addressed: (1) Please tell us about the process to revise the new code of ethics (COE). (2) The 2014 COE starts with a preamble and purpose statement. What are the noteworthy changes the task force made in the beginning of the COE? (3) We all know that the COE applies to the members of the American Counseling Association, but how does the 2014 COE apply to the profession of counseling and counselors who are not members of ACA? (4) As with all revision processes, things get added and removed. What are a few significant additions or changes that you can note for us in the new 2014 COE? (5) The profession has seen some high profile court cases in the last several years. For example, Ward v. Eastern Michigan University and a few others that have centered on the referral process and values. How have the 2014 COE addressed those issues? (6) Perhaps one of the most anticipated additions to the COE are the codes dealing with Social Media, Technology, and Computers. How does the 2014 COE address technology and social media? (7) Much has changed in the medical world with treating HIV & AIDS. This was one disease where professional counselors sought ethical guidance concerning how to provide appropriate services for those with life threatening and contagious diseases and the protection of those who may be in close relationships with those clients. What changes, if any, were made in the ethics concerning providing services to those with life threatening and contagious diseases? (8) Professional counselors are called to service in various ways to benefit the public for little or no compensation. Has that changed at all? (9) The mental health profession is seeing all sorts of new theories and treatment models emerging. How does the COE address using new or emerging theories and has that changed in the revision? (10) In reviewing the new COE, I notice there is added emphasis on using an ethical decision making model. Why is that?
