Community colleges provide a pathway for Latinx first-generation college students (FGCS) to enter higher education. However, many Latinx FGCS struggle with navigating community colleges. High school and college counselors can play important roles in supporting FGCS. The presenters conducted a study, a grounded theory, on the experiences of Latinx FCGS who successfully transferred from community colleges to four-year universities. Their findings, a strength-based approach, for helping Latinx FGCS will be discussed.
