Being “Woke”- The Experiences of Counselor Educators of Color

Mar 30, 2019 4:00pm ‐ Mar 30, 2019 5:00pm

Description

The impact of the sociopolitical climate in the U.S. on people of color with racial insight and awareness is profound and often unacknowledged. Colloquially, having racial awareness and insight and understanding the ubiquity of systemic racism and oppression is referred to as being “woke.” This session will include findings of a qualitative study on the experiences of woke counseling professionals of color. Recommendations for integrating cultural narratives and fostering systemic change are provided.
