Counseling Single African American Women- A Developmental Life Cycle Model

Mar 31, 2019 8:45am ‐ Mar 31, 2019 10:15am

Description

The task of marriage is a cultural expectation found in prevailing life cycle models (Cherlin, 2010; McGoldrick & Shibusawa, 2012), yet African American women are disproportionately single (Clarke, 2011) and not considered in developmental paradigms. Attendees will learn the tenets of, and how to utilize, a conceptual framework characterizing the developmental life cycle model for single African American women. Stages of development, associated tasks, and implications for counseling practices will be addressed.
