Language Brokering in K-12 Schools

Mar 31, 2019 10:00am ‐ Mar 31, 2019 10:30am

Description

Language brokering in schools is the act of multilingual students interpreting and translating between parents/guardians and school personnel. Children and adolescents are often asked to language broker because they understand school and community culture and have English-speaking ability. Language brokering can yield inequitable outcomes for multilingual youth. In this poster session, presenters will describe language brokering, its impact on students, and interventions that can reduce potential harm.
