Trauma and Stress-Related Disorders in Women Who Experienced Early Pregnancy Loss

This roundtable session examines literature on the characteristics of acute stress disorder (ASD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) when experienced by women who had early pregnancy losses. Women who experienced early pregnancy loss may develop acute stress syndrome and later PTSD when certain conditions are present. Implications for counselors will be examined that include early intervention, validation of loss, support of women's grief, and posttraumatic growth.
