Description

Postpartum depression is one of the most common postpartum disorders experienced by hundreds of thousands of women each year. Among available treatment options, research has found that women with postpartum depression most strongly prefer mental health counseling. This session will discuss the risk factors and diagnosis of postpartum depression, as well as the ways that feminist counseling can be utilized by counselors to promote the well-being of diverse mothers, infants, and families.

  • Describe the risk factors, symptoms, and diagnosis of postpartum depression
  • Discuss feminist counseling for treating postpartum depression among women
  • Identify feminist counseling strategies for working with women who experience postpartum depression
