Social media use is prevalent among adolescents, with escalating rates of negative consequences for problematic users. This session is designed to provide foundational knowledge regarding social media addiction, including etiology, signs and symptoms, assessment tools, correlates, and treatment considerations.

  • Attendees will be able to identify risk factors, symptoms, and potential consequences of problematic social media use among adolescents.
  • Attendees will gain insight into the strengths and limitations of current measures available to assess for problematic social media use among adolescents.
  • Attendees will learn concrete strategies to clinically address social media addiction and the negative consequences associated with problematic social media use among adolescents.
