Current Trends in Ethics: A Discussion With the ACA Ethics Committee

Description

Members of the ACA Ethics Committee and an ACA ethics specialist will present as a panel on ethical issues and trends addressed by the committee. Common ethical issues include: social media and use of technology, confidentiality, boundaries, supervision, and value-based judgments and client referral. Presenters will discuss the processing of ethics complaints, and attendees will participate in a Q&A session related to ethical standards and common ethical concerns.

  • To create awareness for membership on recent trends in ethical concerns in counseling and counselor education and supervision;
  • To support mental health counselors in identifying best practice approaches to ethical issues with clients in mental health settings;
  • To promote the welfare of clients by increasing counselors’, counselor educators’, and counselor supervisors’ awareness of sound professional conduct regarding common ethical issues and dilemmas.
