Transdiagnostic Treatment Approaches: The Next Wave of Evidence-Based Practice

Mar 30, 2019 4:00pm ‐ Mar 30, 2019 5:00pm

Description

In contrast to disorder-specific treatments, transdiagnostic approaches address underlying mechanisms that cut across traditional diagnostic boundaries. Research shows that disorders related to anxiety, depression, disordered eating, and trauma have a common set of vulnerability factors that are amenable to a transdiagnostic protocol. Research is reviewed in the area and case examples are used to illustrate how these protocols are implemented.

  • State three differences between a disorder-focused vs. transdiagnostic treatment approaches.
  • State at least three transdiagnostic causal mechanisms that are common across anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders and PTSD.
  • Describe at least three ways transdiagnostic interventions can be incorporated into standard care.

Speaker(s):

  • Gary G. Gintner, PhD, Associate Professor and Program Coordinator, Louisiana State University
