Minority Youth and App Development: Using Technology to Increase Mental Health Awareness

Description

Minority youth share the same mental health issues as the rest of their peers, with arguably even greater stressors due to racism and economic disparities. However, minority youth rarely receive assistance for mental health problems. Research has found that mental health app technology can be effective in combating stigmas and making therapy more accessible, efficient, and portable. The session will discuss the use of app development and its impact on mental awareness for minority youth.

  • The first objective is to provide participants the outcomes of the use of app development and its impact on mental awareness for minority youth.
  • The second objective is to provide participants literature on mental health issues, stigmas, and stressors for minority youth.
  • The third objective is to provide professional counselors resources and strategies to assist minority youth develop attitudes and behaviors that help them function at optimal psycho-social levels in a demanding world.
