Online counseling has skyrocketed in popularity and appeal for the busy professional counselor and potential client alike. Platforms such as BetterHelp, Talkspace, and Breakthrough have hired thousands of licensed practitioners, many of whom serve clients both within the U.S. and across the globe. Join this interactive discussion to gain insight into the benefits and barriers of online modalities as well as the ethical implications of distance counseling in general and for clients on opposite sides of the world.

  • Attendees will gain insight into available online counseling platforms including the basic set-up processes, counselor eligibility, required experience, mandatory insurances, payment schedule, and methods of establishing a client caseload.
  • Attendees will discuss the ACA Ethical Standards and Multicultural Competence Standards as they relate to serving international clientele as well as online counseling in general.
  • Attendees will hear non-identifying success stories and professional barriers for consideration within diverse therapeutic relationships, including international clientele, couples counseling, and individuals who identify within the LGBT community.
