380 - More Than Child’s Pose: Integrating Yoga Into Clinical Practice With Children

Description

This roundtable discussion describes yoga techniques applicable to children ages 4–12 presenting with ADHD, autism, depression, and anxiety. Attendees will gain greater understanding of how yoga develops focus and emotional self-regulation, promotes cognitive flexibility, and reduces stress in children. Recent research regarding the usefulness of yoga and mindfulness in child treatment will be summarized, and participants will be invited to share their own experiences.

  • Participants will be able to describe how mindfulness and yoga can promote healthy development and lead to symptom reduction in children.
  • Participants will be able to assess which clients and symptoms may benefit from the use of yoga in clinical treatment.
  • Participants will be able to apply three or more yoga poses to help reduce stress and promote emotional self-regulation when counseling children.
