Research highlights the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions for use with a variety of diagnoses, including anxiety and depression. Understanding the neuroscience that supports these interventions and how to use them effectively can be beneficial to counselors. This session integrates neuroscience pertinent to mindfulness in counseling and experiential mindfulness exercises to prepare counselors to effectively use these techniques with their clients and for personal self-care.
Participants will understand basic structural mechanisms of the brain that impact human functioning and be able to apply this information to various aspects of counseling practice.
Participants will be able to explain at an elementary level key concepts of neuroscience research specific to mindfulness practices in counseling.
Participants will be able to apply mindfulness-based strategies and interventions to counseling clients and counselor self-care.
