Master Conflict Therapy: A New Model for Practicing Couples and Sex Therapy

Description

This interactive session will train attendees to utilize a comprehensive treatment model specifically designed to treat couples who present with a wide variety of problems, including sexual symptoms. The model is based on master conflict therapy (MCT), an integrative approach that combines psychoanalytic conflict theory and psychodynamic family-of-origin work with basic principles and exercises of sex therapy. Detailed case studies will be utilized for illustration.

  • Participants will be able to define MCT and identify its many key factors including19 different master conflicts which underlie a couple‚Äôs symptoms, including sexual symptoms.
  • Participants will be able to engage in a culturally competent assessment of couple's presenting for treatment, and learn a quick and accurate way to assess couples with sexual and non-sexual problems.
  • Participants will learn a new way of integrating sex therapy and couples therapy using the five stage treatment process, and will learn a quicker and more effective way to bypass a couple's defensive structure.
