Creative TF-CBT Techniques Focused on Preschool and Elementary School Children

Description

Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based counseling model utilized with children who have experienced trauma. Using PRACTICE skills, attendees will acquire advanced knowledge of creative and effective interventions that can be utilized with preschool and elementary school children who have experienced trauma or a major stressor. Interventions will include art, music, media, and games to help children develop coping skills while working through their trauma narrative.

  • Upon attendance, participants will acquire advanced awareness and deeper understanding of different types of trauma and symptoms associated with exposure to trauma in preschool and elementary school children.
  • Upon attendance, participants will gain advanced knowledge of creative clinical skills and interventions that can be successfully utilized with preschool and elementary school children who have experienced different types of trauma, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. These TF-CBT interventions will include using art, music, media and games to help children develop coping skills and work through their trauma narrative.
  • Upon attendance, participants will learn about diversity and cultural issues and factors that can positively and negatively influence TF-CBT treatment goals, including parent involvement, risk/protective factors, and language barriers.
