HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention remain a critical concern to counselors. Stigma, inadequate access to health care, and a lack of general knowledge about advances in prevention and treatment exacerbate the issue. HIV/AIDS disproportionately impacts some culture groups and communities. PreP is a highly effective tool in the prevention of HIV transmission. The session will include current information about PreP, relevant resources, and how to create opportunities to raise awareness and engage in advocacy.
Attendees will learn what PreP is, its intended use, and potential ethical concerns for counselors when talking to clients about PreP.
Attendees will learn about potential ways to increase community awareness of PreP and HIV/AIDS while working to reduce stigma.
