President Trump's proposed education budget would eliminate all funding for the Student Support and Academic Enrichments (SSAE) grant program (Title IV, Part A), a federal program that just received its first appropriation last year. The SSAE program is a block grant intended to help school districts provide a well-rounded education by funding school-based mental health programs, school counseling programs, and drug and violence prevention programs. The American Counseling Association is extremely concerned about the administration’s proposal, and we have urged Congress to reject the President’s budget and fund SSAE at its authorized level of $1.65 billon.
