Members of the ACA Ethics Committee and directors of ethics and professional standards committees will participate in a panel discussion on ethical issues and trends addressed by the committee. Common ethical issues addressed include social media/technology, confidentiality, value-based judgments and client referrals. Informal resolution of ethics conflicts between members will be discussed. Attendees will participate in a Q & A session about ethical standards and common concerns.
Topics at the forefront of the dialogue on ethical standards and professional behavior will be reviewed. The role of social media and technology, duty to warn and breaching confidentiality, the appropriate referral of clients and abandonment as pertains to ethical practice will be reviewed. The importance of attempting informal resolution during ethical conflicts between members will be discussed. Challenges in interpreting the Code will be highlighted, such as the section of the Code on counselor education programs, value based referrals, as well as the relevance of the Ethics Code Revision Task Force. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel related to ethical standards during a question and answer period.

To promote the welfare of clients by increasing counselor', counselor educators', and counselor supervisors" awareness of sound professional conduct regarding common ethical issues and dilemmas.
