Norman C. Gysbers PhD
Norman C. Gysbers is a Curators’ Distinguished Professor in the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri. He received his B.A. degree (1954) from Hope College and his M.A. (1959) and Ph.D. (1963) degrees from the University of Michigan. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Nevada-Reno and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and a visiting scholar at the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University, Beijing Normal University, the University of British Columbia, and National Taiwan Normal University. He was awarded a Franqui Professorship from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles in 1984. He was Editor of the Career Development Quarterly, 1962-1970; Editor of the Journal of Career Development, 1978-2006; President of the National Career Development Association, 1972-73; President of the American Counseling Association, 1977-78; and Vice President of the American Vocational Association, 1979-1982. Since 1967 he has served as director of numerous national and state projects on career development and career counseling, and school guidance program development, implementation, and evaluation. He is author of ninety-five articles in seventeen different professional journals, forty chapters in published books, fifteen monographs, and twenty-two books, one of which has been translated into Chinese, Italian, Japanese, and Korean.
