Mónica Rodríguez is a doctoral student at the University of North Texas (UNT) and works on the Lumin Education Project where she is responsible for facilitating Child-Parent Relationship Therapy for parent educators and play therapy services for children in schools. Her play therapy specialty has provided her the opportunity to serve predominately Latinx clients with low socio-economic status. As a result, she noticed the mental health disparities for clients and actively seeks to serve children, adolescents, and adults from marginalized backgrounds. She has presented on ways to advocate for and support marginalized groups at the local, state, and regional level. Mónica is dedicated to creating awareness, promoting advocacy, and bridging the gap between counselors and clients through open dialogue and trust in the therapeutic relationship.
