Melanie Smith, M.S., LMHC is the Director of Training for The Renfrew Centers, a network of eating disorder treatment centers with 19 locations nationwide. Since 2013, Melanie has been part of a research-practice collaboration team focused on dissemination and implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs). Her role is focused on taking EBPs out of the laboratory and into the therapy room by developing and delivering training and supervision experiences to counselors that make EBPs accessible to diverse populations and support counselors in carrying out EBPs using a social justice lens. Melanie has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications, including a treatment manual, that explore the development, practice and efficacy of EBPs that have been adapted to meet the needs of complex and diverse clients.  She has extensive training in the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders (UP), an empirically-supported treatment approach that has demonstrated efficacy for a range of problems.  Melanie is a UP Certified Therapist and Trainer and has facilitated a large-scale implementation of the UP in a community setting.
