Dr. Laura Choate holds the Jo Ellen Levy Yates Endowed Professorship in the College of Human Sciences and Education at Louisiana State University. She has 18 years of experience as a counselor educator at LSU Choate has 40 publications in journals and in books, most of which have been related to girls’ and women’s wellness. She is the author of four books: Girls and Women’s Wellness: Contemporary Counseling Issues and Interventions (2008), Eating Disorders and Obesity: A Counselor’s Guide to Prevention and Treatment (edited; 2013), Adolescent Girls in Distress: A Guide to Mental Health Treatment and Prevention (2013) and Swimming Upstream: Parenting Girls for Resilience in a Toxic Culture (2015). She is currently a member of the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners, serving as past Board Chair and the Chair of the Discipline Committee. Choate has received the American College Counseling Association Research Award, the LSU Phi Kappa Phi Faculty Award, the 2014 Distinguished Research Award from the LSU College of Human Sciences and Education, the 2013 ACA Best Practices Award, and the 2016 LSU Distinguished Professor Award.
